My Example

Your Vanity

Your Vanity (Andaree)

Though not directed at you, the shoe may fit.
It was, a general bit of wit.
It mocked all the selfie crowd
all around the cloud.
They seem so
proud
and I know
that the well-endowed
feel they ought to shed their shroud
and flaunt themselves just a little bit.
Though not directed at you, the shoe may fit.

Short Rondel

• The Short Rondel might better be described as a short Rondeau than Rondel because this form uses the rentrement or first phrase of L1 as a refrain rather than the full line as in the Rondel.

The Short Rondel is:
○ a poem in 11 lines made up of sixain followd by a quintain.
○ isosyllabic, often 8 syllalbe lines, except for L6 & L11 which are the shorter first phrase of L1.
○ rhymed, rhyme scheme aabbcC ddeeC.
r r r C x x x a
x x x x x x x a
x x x x x x x b
x x x x x x x b
r r r C
x x x x x x x d
x x x x x x x d
x x x x x x x e

My example

I Walk My Dog

I Walk My Dog (Short Rondel)

I walk my dog to let him pee
on damn near every pole we see.
We do not walk to get somewhere,
before we started we were there.
In bright sunshine and in the fog
I walk my dog.

He’s introduced me to new folk
with whom we now will stop and joke.
The children love my little guy
and that is really part of why
I walk my dog.

Serena

• Serena has 2 definitions:

○ Serena(Occitan-serene song) is a song of the troubadours that appeared late in Provencal lyrical poetry and is the counterpart of the Alba. It builds around the theme of waiting for nightfall. Specifically a lover waiting to consummate his love, such circumstance would not communicate “serene” to me. The frame is at the discretion of the poet.

○ The Serena is also a modern day invented form created by Edith Thompson and found in Pathway for the Poet by Viola Berg. It uses head and tail rhyme.
The invented Serena from Pathways … is:
§ is a poem in 11 lines.
§ syllabic, L1,L9,L11 are 4 syllables each. L2 & L10 are 3 syllables each and L3 thru L8 are 7 sylables each.
§ head and tail rhymed, the head rhyme is AAbbccddAAx and the tail rhyme is ABcxccddABb, x being unrhymed.
§ composed with a refrain, L1 & L2 are repeated as L9 & L10.

My effort here will deal with the specific invented form.

What’s the Doubt About (Form: Serena)

Rhyme is sublime
I’m assured,
heard as accent to a beat.
Word is that excess is not
neat; it ought be a discrete
treat or aim may meet defeat.
Bawdy rhyme one might applaud,
flawed or not so help me God.
Rhyme is sublime
I’m assured.
The truth’s obscured.

My example

Not to Waste (Eleventh Power)

Each day if a morning comes it seems a gift;
there’s more to do I have not yet done to date.
A poem to read to give my soul a lift
and poems to write before it is too late.
When younger, the days seemed not too short or swift,
but now I realize that time for no man waits.
There’s someone for whom for whom a cheerful smile
will brighten the day and make it more worthwhile.
A joke or a smile’s not wasted anywhere
and feeling alright’s a proper mood to share.
Today’s an extra! So live it like you care.

Shoe Laces

This is a spontaneous form created by Michael Fantina, aka Eusebius on Allpoetry.  Note: he thinks it silly to give it a name, and did not instigate this action.  He is too busy being a real poet.  It was named by Doubletake, who like the way the end crosses.
It is a syllabic 11 line poem
It alternates iambic feet of 4 and one
Rhyme pattern: abbacddceff
A brevity form.
My Example Poem

Unfettered
I  long  for  your  return  to  me,
       I  do;
for  my  tranquility  needs  you,
       you  see.
Your  absence  leaves  me  feeling  lost.
       You  know
you’re  always  free  to  come  and  go.
       The  cost
of  bondage  you  would  never  bear,
       I  fear
when  morning  comes  you  won’t  be  here.

Fold

Gillena Cox, poet from Trinidad & Tobago, best known for writing haiku/senryu has created a new experimental short form called the fold.  Presented on line first at Sketchbook in 2007.

Syllabic, Meter optional, Line length optional, Rhymed: AxaxAxaxaxA, Refrain, 11 lines.

THE FOLD takes credibility from haiku; it shares moments which are special simply and exactly. Grasping the tools of juxtaposition and contrast, THE FOLD crafts itself into a rhyming form of ELEVEN lines—unlike its three lined haiku progenitor.

There is one rhyme continuing throughout the poem, occurring at every other line: uneven lines rhyme. Lines ONE, FIVE and ELEVEN carry the same last phrase, to form the EDGES of the FOLD. Line ONE repeats at line FIVE which is the CREASE of the FOLD.

Since there are no metric or syllable requirements, any template can merely be
illustrative, so here one is:

fold

Example Poem

Burners    (Fold)
Burner

people shed their clothes at the Burning Man;
self-expression and anarchy rule;
a community grows in desert sand,
freedom expressed in artistic artifacts,
people shed their clothes at the Burning Man;
fifty thousand acting as they please
no big- name acts, attendees themselves can
dance, sing, entertain with instruments,
make-up, costumes, magic, getting a tan;
strangers welcome most any where;
community works at the Burning Man.

Roundel

A Roundel is syllabic with  3 Stanzas, 9 lines of the same length, and two shorter refrain lines which must be identical to the beginning of the first line.
There is NO set line length but iambic tetrameter or petrameter is common.
Rhyme Scheme: abaB bab abaB,
where B is the refrain after the third line and as the final line of the poem.

The refrain must be identical with the beginning of the first line:
it may be a half-line, and rhymes with the second line.
Example Poem
Summer Awe       (Roundel)

Without a doubt you know I’m here
from canine breath I must let out,
that we’re connected souls is clear
Without a doubt.
Your wings move slowly near my snout
as though a greeting without fear.
I love how your kind flits about.
Your brilliant colors do endear;
you dance to flower’s summer shout.
We both hold freedom very dear
Without a doubt.

Tory Meter

The ToryMeter was invented by Victoria Sutton, known as Passionspromise on Allpoetry.
An easy form that is similar to the Rictameter with a slightly different approach. Example follows.

2 syllables (R) last line
4 syllables
6 syllables
8 syllables
10 syllables
12 syllables
10 syllables
8 syllables
6 syllables
4 syllables
2 syllables (R) first line (2/4/6/8/10/12/10/8/6/4/2)

Rhyme scheme can vary I have done multiple in different end rhymes.
But they must have a rhyme scheme…

Example Poem

Good Friends
Good friends
share anything
because their trust extends
beyond the boundary that will  spring
from propriety and good common sense
between casual friends. Their trust may stem from shared
experiences or things learned at expense
of innocence with feelings bared.
If that trust should fail, how
can they be now
Good friends
