Exquisite is the Stillness

Exquisite is the stillness found in spring
As nature wakes to every living thing—
Fresh fields of poppy, phlox, and columbine;
Thick tree trunks all adorned with climbing vine.
The peach, the plum and pear with blossomed bough,
The rich black earth once furrowed by the plough;
The stately aspen and the evergreen,
Bosk brambles where sweet berries lie unseen,
The morning glory wanders all around,
Bold-bladed, daring daffodils break ground—
And as I stand here warmed by dawn’s new rays,
I marvel how such silence sends Him praise!
