Sunset, Sunrise

The sunset’s stunning as the day turns night
with colors of the palette all aglow;
I watch her fade as darkness starts to grow
out in the western sky, a splendid sight.
Dark shadows fill the earth with ebon blight
and seek to interrupt my status quo;
and though, this nightly shift I could forego
I know I will survive this pitch-black plight

For lo, what beauty greets the glorious dawn
when over mountains looming in the east
appears a growing shaft of precious light.
I stretch my arms and give a lazy yawn
as ribboned shafts invite me to the feast
and chase the waning darkness from my sight.
