Deplorable

This is a sonnet form invented  by Jose Rizal M. Reyes of the Philippines, and not yet named, by him. This temporary name provided by Lawrence Eberhart.

It is stanzaic, consisting of quatrain, quatrain, couplet, quatrain.
It is metric, written in iambic pentameter.
It is Refrained
rhyming pattern: aaaB cccB dd eeebB

Here are Jose’s initial writes.

XXIV. The Deplorables

We do not bear a dainty name
to shield from slander or from shame.
Quite merrily we play the game.
Because we are Deplorables!

We fear no libtards weeping loud;
nor foul illegals, quite a crowd;
nor terrorists with bomb and shroud.
Because we are Deplorables!

There’s one thing all must understand:
we shall protect our Motherland!

This land is ours, do not forget.
Don’t undermine nor pose a threat.
For otherwise you shall regret.
Because we are Deplorables!

Third-person-plural version:

XXIV. The Deplorables

They do not bear a dainty name
to shield from scoffers and from shame.
Quite merrily they play the game.
Because they are Deplorables!

They fear no libtards weeping loud;
nor foul illegals, quite a crowd;
nor terrorists with bomb and shroud.
Because they are Deplorables!

There’s one thing all must understand:
they will protect their Motherland!

It is their land, don’t yout forget.
Don’t undermine nor pose a threat.
For otherwise you shall regret.
Because they are Deplorables!

My Example

A Rogue in Time

If America should be number one,
then Globalists must somehow be undone
and all elites be forced to share the fun.
We need a rogue to put this country straight.

Now multiculturalism ‘s not the goal –
assimilation serves a better role
when any nation cherishes its’soul.
We need a rogue to put this country straight,

I love the land in which I’ve grown and thrived
but far too little spirit has survived.

The liberals think the right thing is to give ,
and thus attract the “gimmees” here to live
til now we finally need to plug the sieve.
We need a rogue to put this country straight.

Rime Royal Sonnet

Rime Royal Sonnet

Rime Royal

This stanza form is believed to be of Italian origin, and appears to be formed out of the, stanza called Ottava Rima, and by removing the fifth line. This reduces it to a seven line stanza of three rhymes, arranged with a rhyme scheme of;

a. b. a. b. b. c. c.. The unison of two stanza’s will construct a lovely sonnet form.

It seems probable that the inventor of this stanza was Geoffrey Chaucer, who had many compositions using this form, of which the following is an example:

THE PRIORESS’S TALE

Domine, dominus noster.

O Lord, Our Lord, Thy name how marvelous

Is spread through all this mighty world,” said she

“For not alone Thy praise so glorious

Is given by men of worth and dignity,

But from the mouths of children Thy bounty

Is hymned, yea, even sucklings at the breast

Do sometimes Thy laudation manifest.

“Wherefore in praise, as best I can or may,

Of Thee and of that pure white Lily-flower

Who bore Thee, and is yet a maid alway,

I tell a tale as best is in my power,

Not that I may increase Her heavenly dower,

For She Herself is honour and the one

From Whom spring wealth and goodness, next Her Son.

The subjects of rime royal poetry was courtly, moral, or classic tales, and generally must be elevated: love, chivalry, saints’ lives, classic tales, tragedies. Rime royal was not used for low comedy or bawdy tales and it seems natural for two stanzas of this form to make a sonnet, and the Sonnet Crown, Redoubled and Sequence would be natural additions as Chaucer has proven..

Autumn Love

Come take my hand my autumn angel

No longer summers colours bright

Lush green hues are no longer visible

And days share equal time with night.

Cool mornings and a paler sky sight

Leave a legacy the colours of red and gold.

So thankful crops are gathered, and sold,

This time is ours in our private nest

Away from cooler seas that chill the air

It is now we find that time alone is best

With evenings by a fire in a comfy chair

Now that time is best to show we care

And future lives stretching out forever

That we earned through our endeavour

My example

The Tytle Cycle (Rime Royal Sonnet)

Though Caesar died upon the March’s Ides
It’s April’s fifteenth day that I’d eschew.
To Caesar, men must pay (and file besides),
it’s voluntary, (that’s a lie that grew).
They take from me so they may give to you!
Not you yourself – I think you think like me,
the other guys, who think things should be free.
Republics can’t endure once people learn
their votes can buy the guy who’ll make it so.
The tax breaks for which each of us so yearn
will go to those who pony up the dough.
Entitlements can do nothing but grow.
The “gimme” guys will take, the house will spend;
this is the way our government will end.

Rime Royal Sonnet

Bush Ballad Meter Sonnet

In the flavor of the “Man From Snowy River” by Andrew Barton Paterson I have set forth the following specifications for what I am calling the “Bush Ballad Meter Sonnet”.

Creator: Lawrence Eberhart, aka on Allpoetry as Lawrencealot.
Syllabic: L1 through L2 alternate 15 and 11 syllable. Lines 13 and 14 each have 15 syllables.
Rhyme pattern: ababcdcdefefgg
Metric: Primarily anapestic and iambic meter.
I guess technically all lines begin with an anapest,
the first 6 long lines then have 2 tertius paeons and 2 iambs’
the short lines have four iambs
the last two have 1 tertius paeon and 4 iambs
but the visual template is easier to understand.

Anapestic foot [da da DUM]
Iambic foot [da DUM]
Tertius paeon foot [ da da da DUM]

My example poem

Dominion (Bush Ballad Meter Sonnet)

When a chieftain comes to power, it’s because he’s acted well
in providing for the welfare of the tribe.
When a politician rises with smooth rhetoric to sell
what’s not really his to give, then it’s a bribe.
When a clique of any dogma with agenda driven goals
should encounter opposition to its plan,
that’s when greed and self-advancement will supplant more lofty roles,
and the powerful will kill because they can.

When a species such as humans has no predators to fear
yet they have the wherewithal to calculate,
it’s perhaps the plan of Gaia (causing some to disappear)
to allow cupidity to turn to hate.
For it’s certain through the ages, those in power decimate;
we can hope for what it’s worth that man awakes before too late.

Bush Ballad Meter Sonnet

Sonondilla or Sardine

This is a form invented by Charles L. Weatherford the creator of one of the best Poetry learning sites in the English speaking world.

In his own word Charles explains that he devloped to form to play to his own particular strengths:

Creating the “sonondilla, I actually used two existing forms. First was the Petrarchan sonnet; second was the redondilla, a purely syllabic Spanish quatrain with envelope rhyme scheme (abba).
Based on this mixing, I came up with a fourteen line form that was syllabic, but was also tougher to rhyme than other sonnets. I’m much better at rhyming than a lot of people. (That isn’t to say that I don’t put out some real klinkers in my light verse.)

So, the sonondilla’s predominant rhyme scheme is abbaabbaccddcc, which is even more difficult than the Petrarchan sonnet. “
_____
And from  the Britannica:
redondilla, a Spanish stanza form consisting of four trochaic lines, usually of eight syllables each, with a rhyme scheme of abba. Quatrains in this form with a rhyme scheme of abab, sometimes also called redondillas, are more commonly known as serventesios. Redondillas have been common in Castilian poetry since the 16th century. The word is derived from the Spanish redondo, meaning “round.”

And from Poetrybase:

Sardine

Type:

Structure, Metrical Requirement, Rhyme Scheme Requirement, Simple, Pivot Requirement

Description:

A sonnet that uses redondilla as a base. Each line is eight syllables and has the rhyme scheme abbacddceeffee or abbaabbaccddcc. It is also known as the Redondilla sonnet, the Napoleonic sonnet, or the Sonondilla.

Attributed to:

“The Dread Poet Roberts”

Origin:

American

Schematic:

Rhyme: abbacddceeffee or abbaabbaccddcc
Line meter: xxxxxxxx or xX xX xX xX or Xx Xx Xx Xx

Many Thanks to Charles Weatherford for his wonderful resource site.

So we have the Sonondilla or SardineSonnet
It should be written in octosyllabic lines.
Meter either iambic or trochaic
Rhyme scheme: Rhyme: abbacddceeffee or abbaabbaccddcc
Volta to appear at line 9.
I found the Sonondilla first, then found the Sardine.  I asked the inventor about it.
His reply:
 Larry,
I usually go with Sardine. It is a good joke name
that my buddy Chuck Lipsig (He’s a poet and
playwright on my FB friends’ list.) came up with
while I was developing the form.
The idea was that Sardinia was sort of midway
between Spain (redondilla) and Sicily (Sonnet).
The geography was the basis of several of the joke
names, such as Napoleonic sonnet.
Several people have written sardines (the poem)
with the theme of sardines (the fish).
I remember one I saw talking about people on a crowded
train with the sardines-in-a-can metaphor.
Charley
My example:
Ambiguity           (Sonondilla or Sardine)

In ambiguity there’s hope
that your misstatement may make sense
to someone sitting on the fence
who’s neither voted yep  nor nope.
Thus politician’s often cope
with lack of what’s called commonsense
by merely giving no offence.
If you don’t get it, you’re the dope.
You cannot fact check what’s not said
Thus inferences that have led
to contrary conclusions are
non-specific, sometimes bizarre.
Turn off the TV, go to bed,
or watch grass grow; you’ll be ahead.

Scupham Sonnet

Isosyllabic quatrain consisting of two  Scupham stanzas (sextets) followed by a couplet
Metered: Iambic Pentamter
Rhymed: abccba deffed gg
Sources:
My thanks to Bob Newman at Volecentral for this information, his site is a wonderful resource.
My thanks to Judi Van Gorder at Poetry Magnus, another wonderful resource.
  • The Scupham Sonnet is noted at Vol Central as not a “proper” sonnet, probably because of the lack of prescribed pivot. It was created by British poet Peter Scupham and uses the Scupham Stanza. The Scupham Sonnet is:
    • a quatorzain made up of 2 Schupham stanzas (sixains) followed by a rhymed couplet.
    • metered, iambic pentameter.
    • rhymed, scheme abccba deffed gg.
    • no prescribed place for a pivot but most good poetry naturally has a pivot or turn someplace within the poem.
  • The Scupham Stanza is a sixain used in the Scupham Sonnet but which could be stand-alone poem or written in any number. It was created by British poet, Peter Scupham and is found at Vol Central. The Scupham stanza is:
    • stanzaic, written in any number of sixains.
    • metered or not at the discretion of the poet. (When using it in a sonnet, in deference to the form, iambic pentameter would be my choice.)
    • rhymed, scheme abccba.
My Thanks to Jodi Van Gorder for the wonderful PMO resource.
Scupham sonnet
Peter Scupham likes abccba stanzas. Two of these plus a rhyming couplet make something very like a sonnet. This is not a “proper” sonnet, strictly speaking, but I think of it as a Scupham Sonnet. (This is not a standard name).
Bob NEWMAN
Example Poem
Not to Be Relinquished    (Scupham Sonnet)
Your loveliness and charm have made you sought
by big on campus  types and by most all.
Since every blooming guy’s asked you to dance,
I wondered how I’d ever have a chance.
I’ve secretly been subject to your thrall
if we don’t dance this day has been for naught.
I watched and waited most content, engrossed.
by seeing others shining in your light.
Uplifting, kind response to all you’d meet
I meet you as you return towards your seat.
I mumbled “Hi, we haven’t danced tonight.
“The timing’s right, just two more tunes at most,”
you said, and offered me your arm and hand.
We left together,  just as she had planned.

PGMA Sonnet

The PGMA Sonnet was invented by Jose Rizal M. Reyes
on January 28, 2009 name in honor of:
Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (born April 5, 1947) is a Filipino politician who served as the 14th President of the Philippines from 2001 to 2010, as the 12th Vice President of the Philippines from 1998 to 2001, and is currently a member of the House of Representatives representing the 2nd District of Pampanga. She was the country’s second female president (after Corazón Aquino), and the daughter of former President Diosdado Macapagal.
Noted: 12/23/12
rhyming pattern: abba abba cddc dd
Example Sonnet
California Grows Nevada     (PGMA Sonnet)
When California raised the rate at which
it taxes the “rich” it assured one thing.
In Nevada cash registers will ring.
The small businesses won’t just stay and bitch.
Some are bound to stay; many though will switch
to states nearby where taxes have less sting.
These states will see a relative upswing.
Increasing taxes simply won’t enrich.
Thanks Wilson, for a few more jobs right here
in Nevada, it’s appreciated.
Though Dems seem to think it’s complicated,
it’s really not, to me it is quite clear.
When their quest to tax is finally sated
We could end-up overpopulated.

Germanic Caudated Sonnet

This a form of the super sonnet class invented by
Jose Rizal M. Reyes on June 9, 2009 This is a triple tailed sonnet
abba bccb cddc dd / dee dff dgg
3 quatrains + couplet + 3 tercets
natural place for the volta is line 13, but poet may choose.
Example poem:
Envy then Punish the Rich      (Germanic Caudated Sonnet)
In every age some chosen few have ruled
despite the form of government in place.
Laws are the tools that often bring disgrace
Eventually when power’s overruled.

Entrusted senators, to win their race
now tell the public what it wants to hear.
Views shared with some are hushed, but its clear
your wants  will yield to those more highly placed.

Rich men can fund campaigns and make appear
Innumerable chances to obtain
considerable wealth with little pain.
Handshake contracts let fairness disappear.

`
Indeed we viewed the scoundrels with disdain
no doubt, but set our course to our own gain.

Occupy Wall street  meant that one would train
until they could perform those jobs that paid
real bucks for successful decisions made.

Some joined those rich, and walked in their terrain
and moved their family’s fortunes up a rung,
denouncing whining as song to be sung.
Alas our masses want the rich contained;
government must now give punishment to those
employers rising in the path they chose.

Trinidad Sonnet

4 tercets + couplet
Generally Iambic Pentameter
Volta at or following line 9
4 tercets + couplet

Rhyme Scheme:  Aba cbc Ded fef AD
This is a form invented by Jose Rizal M. Reyes of the Philippines

Example Poem:

Hope for the Winners      (Trinidad Sonnet)

The race is being run without a doubt.
The rules are changing yet corruption rules.
In every project gov’mint talks about.

Yet private enterprise and science still
will surge ahead with heat that seldom cools,
increasing benefits that awe and thrill.

The gifts we’ll see ahead will be profound.
Will joys and health alone prevent  a rage
against the plutocratic greed that’s found?

A radical religion may bring hell
to Earth.  A clash, if hatred comes of age
could cost a billion lives before we’re well.

The race is being run without a doubt.
The gifts we’ll see ahead will be profound.

Kal’s Wondercloth Weave

Invented by  Jose Rizal M. Reyes of the Philippines
Meter: Consistent or iambic pentameter
Volta: Not Defined
rhyming pattern: abcb bcdc cded de
format: English (quatrain, quatrain, quatrain, couplet)

Example Poem:

Plan to Fit      ( Kal’s Wondercloth Weave Sonnet )

Societal complexity dictates mankind
initiate a forward-looking plan before
indoctrination’s even finished by big bro.
A standard dumbing down so they can write the score.

A uniform agenda sets the planning floor.
You plan ahead to learn to recognize the flow.
Preparing mind to find things fine so that you’ll fit.
Then you can find a niche with those that run the show.

Prepare to be a drone; we need more drones, you know.
Defer today, that’s dogma’s way of teaching it.
Embrace authority; easier than being free,
So plan ahead, so when the music stops, you’ll sit.

But, there is much to cherish living every day
in spontaneity, in fact that reeks of me.
