Four tercets plus a couplet
Rhymed: aaa bbb ccc ddd ee
Example Poem
Social Engineering     (Reasonnet)
Now every day you make me break the ice.
I wouldn’t mind if you’d just ask me nice.
Instead you merely yak and give advice.
“Who made me your undocumented fool,
and set me up as your ice-breaking tool?”
I just decided to revoke that rule.
Of course we want to search for our next meal
yet all my stomping may attract a seal.
you say, “So what? That’s not a biggy deal.”
This method causes quickly, a commotion.
I backslap you with one nice friendly motion
and voila! there’s our entry to the ocean.
I found my solution to be quite neat.
It’s quicker than my using my two feet.

Volta at or following line 9
3 Quatrains + Couplet
Rhyme scheme: aaab bbcc cddd ee
This is a form invented by Jose Rizal M. Reyes of the Philippines

Example poem:

Venatus est Super (Lunatic Sonnet)

If you just plan your life then live your plan
with loving girl to be your wife, young man,
be kind to all and ball when e’re you can,
‘cus toward the end man must suspend his lust.

Let not a day escape without a gust
of levity shared with the ones you trust.
Your plan need not embrace a dogma learned
from others, describing what should be yearned.

My journey while my candle brightly burned
was personal and seems well worth the play.
My wick is now very short; that’s OK.
My joy’s been spent in smiles along the way.

“Nos morituri te salutant”, friend.
We’re facing nothing fearful at the end.

Author Notes:
“Venatus est super”, latin for “the game is over”
“Nos morituri te salutant”, Latin for “We who are about to die salute you”

Blues Sonnet

The defining features of the Blues Sonnet are:
  • a quatorzain made up of 4 triplets and a heroic couplet.
  • oddly metric, in iambic pentameter. This is in contrast to the usual blue stanza which is accentual, with a more folksy rhythm.
  • rhymed, rhyme scheme AAa BBb CCc DDd ee.
  • it is composed of 4 Blues Stanzas, L1 statement, L2 incremental repetition of L1, and L3 is a climactic parallel of the first 2 lines.
  • pivot or volta should be in the last triplet. and ends in a declamatory couplet.

Example Poem:

November, 2012
Our country faces crisis we allowed.
My country faces crisis we allowed.
Our constitution has been disavowed.
With Czars a shadow government’s emerged.
Unchecked, a shadow government’s emerged.
Today our middle class has been submerged.
Our President wants full control right now.
The President wants full control right now.
Our freedom must be put aside somehow.
I write to share my fearful sad lament.
I want to share my fearful sad lament.
The takers want it all, and they’re intent.
We need to muster every thinking vote.
for gimme-mores we know will vote by rote.
