A Capped Sonnet is a Blank Verse Sonnet
• metric, written iambic pentameter. In English most sonnets are written in iambic pentameter but there are some that occasionally stray from the norm. To metrically stray is not an option with the Blank Verse Sonnet.
• unrhymed.
• a quatorzain with no stanza breaks.
• composed with a pivot or turn which logically arrives in the 2nd half of the sonnet.
which is then ended with a rhymed couplet.

Issue (Capped Sonnet)

Though you seduced an innocent, my dear,
most willingly I did comply that night.
‘Twas out of fear, there was no raging lust;
I knew within my heart you would not wait
and so I staked my claim before I left
to fight and maybe die among my mates.
I married you before we went to war.
Once branded, I imagined you’d not roam.
But founded fears cannot be wished away;
the tides and winds of fate won’t be denied.
Predispositions frequently control.
No man you chose could ever quite decline.
     Our marriage did not last; our children grew.
     They are the precious gift that came from you.

  • The Scupham Sonnet is noted at Vol Central as not a “proper” sonnet, probably because of the lack of prescribed pivot. It was created by British poet Peter Scupham and uses the Scupham Stanza.The Scupham Sonnet is:
    • a quatorzain made up of 2 Schupham stanzas (sixains) followed by a rhymed couplet.
    • metered, iambic pentameter.
    • rhymed, scheme abccba deffed gg.
    • no prescribed place for a pivot but most good poetry naturally has a pivot or turn someplace within the poem.
  • The Scupham Stanza is a sixain used in the Scupham Sonnet but which could be stand-alone poem or written in any number. It was created by British poet, Peter Scupham and is found at Vol Central.The Scupham stanza is:
    • stanzaic, written in any number of sixains.
    • metered or not at the discretion of the poet. (When using it in a sonnet, in deference to the form, iambic pentameter would be my choice.)
    • rhymed, scheme abccba.

Scupham sonnet
Peter Scupham likes abccba stanzas. Two of these plus a rhyming couplet make something very like a sonnet. This is not a “proper” sonnet, strictly speaking, but I think of it as a Scupham Sonnet. (This is not a standard name).

Not to Be Relinquished    (Scupham Sonnet)
Your loveliness and charm have made you sought
by big on campus  types and by most all.
Since every blooming guy’s asked you to dance,
I wondered how I’d ever have a chance.
I’ve secretly been subject to your thrall
if we don’t dance this day has been for naught.
I watched and waited most content, engrossed.
by seeing others shining in your light.
Uplifting, kind response to all you’d meet
I meet you as you return towards your seat.
I mumbled “Hi, we haven’t danced tonight.
“The timing’s right, just two more tunes at most,”
you said, and offered me your arm and hand.
We left together,  just as she had planned.

Sephallian Reverse Sonnet

The Sephallian Reverse Sonnet
was invented in April, 2013 by poet Dennis Nguyen, aka Sephallia on Allpoetry.com.
The poem is generally presented as a quatrazain since it is intended to be read either from top to bottom, or from bottom up.  There is no prohibition to
presenting it in stanzas.
The DEFINING characteristic of this form is that when read in the normal fashion, the poem has a pessimistic tone, but when read from bottom to top, it becomes and optimistic poem.
The rhyme scheme is abcdeedcbaffa and may optionally be written as a refrain sonnet as A1bcdeedcbA2ffA2A1.
Meter and line-length are at the poet’s discretion.
Volta, which is recommended, but not demanded, can occur anywhere between L4 and L11. The poem can have one in each direction.
This is a challenging and rewarding form.

A Measure of Character(Sephiallan Reverse Sonnet)

What you are told in confidence
if you hold secret to your breast
reward will flow in unknown ways.
An urge to propagate a tale
to pique the interest of a friend
there can surely be no good end
when confidences you assail
a gentle whispered word betrays
when silence serves your honor best
Your revelation makes no sense
I’ll never trust my thoughts with you
if other’s secrets you will spew
If rumors gain some cognizance
From what you’re told in confidence .

Before the creation of the form by the same name by Jose Rizal M. Reyes, which I introduced here.
For clarification, until Jose has time and inclination to
resolve the conflict I’ll refer to his as Kiwi Sonnet, a sub-title he did provide.
New Zealand (Kiwi)
Renamed here to  Kiwi Pause – Suggested by creator.
Quatorzain, Generally Iambic Pentameter or tetrameter
Volta at or following line 9
3 Quatrains + Couplet
Rhyme scheme:  abba ccdd effe gg
This is a form invented by Jose Rizal M. Reyes of the Philippines

New Zealand Sonnet
Marked by its isolation from the two major sonnet sources, the New Zealand sonnet is a hybrid of Italian, English with the French influence of interlocking the quatrains; remembering that although a former English colony a few islands in the Pacific are French speaking.

Miltonic Sonnet

The Miltonic Sonnet is:
a quatorzain, enjambment is used to tighten the sonnet,
leaving the 14 lines unbroken by stanzas.
metered, iambic pentameter
rhymed, uses the Petrarchan rhyme scheme abbaabbacdecde.
pivot evolves slowly after L8, or does not,
composed around the themes of moral issues and political insights.Example Poem:Arrogance

The arrogance some wear is but a cloak.
A garment of disdain. Quality men
are known by deeds alone. No smirks and then
derisive sneers or swipes at other folk.
For arrogant, what do they shield? A joke?
Was some success so fine and rare that when
it happened it felt like a big amen?
They must now remind self they shed their yoke?
Is arrogance the aegis of their scute?
I fathom no reward or pleasure gained
from haughtiness itself. If not a source
Of cheer then it’s protection, resolute.
Abide their snideness, smile and stay your course
They belittle none… Worth is absolute.

Clare Sonnet

Essentially the identifying characteristic of the Clare Sonnet is its 
couplet rhyme pattern aabbccddeeffgg

It is supposed to be Iambic Pentameter, but I have seen
variations from  Tetrameter to Heptameter. 
IMHO a poet should  add -” In the style of John Clare” to these poems.

However see Couplet Sonnet or the Cyhydedd Fer Sonnet as alternates.

Tell Me of Your Anger in Whispers   (Clare  Sonnet)

Should you be moved to speak in anger, dear,
You’ll want to be assured your meaning’s clear.
I ask that first you test your words alone
If anger stems from blunder of my own.
Is it essential now that blame be found;
will such proceed toward a common ground?
If meaning’s very clear, then is it fair?
Are these first words intended to repair?
Unleashed, harsh words will travel like a spear,
Perhaps, the words should simply disappear
for now, until your anger can abate.
There’s nothing risked delaying words that grate.
My love, use whispers closely late tonight.
I love you, honey; I will make it right.

Blank Verse Sonnet

The Blank Verse Sonnet is simply a sonnet written in Blank Verse. It has all of the features of the sonnet without rhyme. Although Blank Verse is often used in narratives, it can also adapt to the lyrical sonnet. Blank verse is a strophic sonnet in iambic pentameter. Sonnets without rhyme can be traced back to Edmund Spenser.
The defining features of the Blank Verse Sonnet are:
