The State of Texas spans eight hundred miles
and folks are known to boast
about its varied topographic styles
from mountains to the coast
of landscape that beguiles.
But I am not as readily impressed
with passing piles of earth that occupy
the land as by the hand that paints the best
of scenery to fill the sky
above the desert in the west.
